It Takes Two
the Children's Medical Center of Dayton project

In 2007, the Dayton Visual Arts Center created more than 60 pieces of original artwork for The Children’s Medical Center of Dayton. Adult/child pairs worked under the direction of professional artists to create paintings, digital drawings on tiles, fused glass panels, soft sculptures and metal constructions. These objects are mounted throughout one of the pediatrics units on the third floor, in combination with individual works by the artists who taught.

To ensure that there was enough artwork available, the plan called for the child/adult pairs to create more art than was called for. Jennifer Isham and Peg Blankenhorn, the nurse/managers who oversaw the project, helped choose the work that fit the project best. This was a difficult job, as there was such high overall quality. While individuals from the group took a few beloved pieces home, they decided to hold a Silent Auction at the Dayton Visual Arts Center’s downtown gallery during the spring Urban Nights event, on Friday, May 16, and donate the profits to the Children’s Miracle Network.

The child/adult teams were: Hazel Black and Christina Pereyma, Charlie and Jane Black, Galen and Glen Clark,Taylor Curtis and Marsha Pippenger, Alexa Curtis and Connie Keck, Amy, Grace and Rebecca Deal, Sparrow Elizabeth and MB Hopkins, Adam Koenig and Sharon Stolzenberger, Katie Riccardella and Suzanne Ley.

Bidding begins May 9!
