Artists on Art: Criteria to Nominate an Artist
The Dayton Visual Arts Center will keep a running nomination list. Nominations should include a 100-word essay describing the individual’s accomplishments and impact on the community; a paragraph about the nominator and his/her relationship to the nominee; and 3 images (slides or jpgs of 1 MB or less) – two images of artwork (include title, media, size and date with essay) and one image of the nominee. Dayton Region artists will be considered by the program and exhibition committee for documentation as funding is available, based on the following criteria:
- The artist will have demonstrated high artistic quality and shown a strong commitment to the Greater Dayton community.
- The artist will have been significantly involved in the Greater Dayton region, defined as the following counties: Darke, Preble, Shelby, Miami, Montgomery, Logan, Champaign, Clark, Greene, Butler, and Warren.
- The artist will have lived a majority of his/her life in the Greater Dayton region.
- The project will be focused on artists who are over 65 years of age. Special consideration will be given to issues of advanced age or decline of health. If an artist meets all other criteria, is under 65 years of age, and has been diagnosed with a terminal disease, he/she may be considered eligible.
- A committee will make every effort to include artists from diverse backgrounds. Gender, ethnicity, rural/urban, and primary medium will all be considered.
- The nomination committee will consist of at least four individuals with not more than one representative from any one organization. Representatives from the following organizations will be sought: Dayton Visual Arts Center, Dayton Art Institute, a regional University Art Department, a regional gallery director and/or CultureWorks. In addition, arts patrons within the region who have shown considerable commitment to art in our region may be invited.
- Self nominations will not be accepted.
