Construction of Space: Tess Little and Jennifer Rosengarten
May 10-June 15
Opening Reception 5-10 p.m
Gallery Talk: May 23, 6:15 p.m.
Sculptor, Tess Little, and painter, Jennifer Rosengarten are teamed together in “Constructing Space;” an exhibition that invites viewers to explore the physical and spiritual spaces created between the artist’s experience of gardens and the expression of them in their materials.
Little, whose work in ceramic and welded-steel is often located in outdoor environments, intends an uplifting mood to affect viewers as they move through her installation of tree-forms created from natural and recycled materials. Her sculptural landscape is titled, “Filled by Spirit” and through her use of ancient symbols and shapes, such as the circle with its universal embrace, she hopes to create a space of welcome
within the gallery as though to invite viewers into a peaceful garden. She hopes that they will experience a soul-stirring celebration of nature, life and promise.
Rosengarten’s drawings in charcoal and pastel are not so much a direct transcription of botanical forms as they are more symbolic of flower as expressed in large scale interpretations of her personal impressions of the many fleeting moments she spends in garden settings. Rosengarten manipulates and evolves small paintings and drawings that she captures on site into large scale re-imaginings of floral forms. She intends that the perception of place created within these organic compositions will evoke the mood and memory of time spent in a garden and perhaps allow viewers to sense its solace and spirit.
Together, the work of these two artists will create a highly evocative, conceptual experience of the renewal that time spent outdoors can provide. Come to the garden!
