Liliana Basarab of Iasi, Romania is DVAC's first Artist in Residence. She arrived Oct. 14, 2010, immediately connecting with Susan Tyner, the residency coordinator, and Bill Foreman, who has generously invited her to use his studio to create a sculpture that will embody her Dayton experience.

The ongoing project is explained on Liliana's Web site. She will be drawing on her experience here to choose a concept and a group of people wh in some way represent that idea. We all get to vote online from Oct. 26 through Oct. 31 for the person we think best depicts the concept! Liliana will then create a ceramic bust of the winner, which we will unveil on Tuesday, Nov. 16, at her going away party.

Liliana will be keeping public hours at DVAC on Thursdays, Oct. 21, Nov. 5 and Nov. 11 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please come in and meet her!  We are grateful to those who have brought Liliana our way: CEC ArtsLink and the Ohio Arts Council; and local funders Dayton Power & Light Co. and The Lombard Fund.
