MiamiValley native Jane Black took the reins as executive director of the DaytonVisualArtsCenter in December 2003. No stranger in the visual arts community, Jane is a fiber artist and printmaker, best known for the practice of gyotaku or Japanese fish printing. She served on the DVAC board of trustees for three years and chaired the 1999 art auction. Jane grew up in Oakwood and studied painting, drawing, and printmaking at theUniversity of Redlands in California. She learned the basics of gyotaku while living in San Francisco. In 1999, Jane began covering the visual arts for the Dayton Daily News. That led her to the paper as marketing publication department where she was a publications editor for 3 years before coming to DVAC.
Patrick, a native of Wapakoneta, is a graduate of WrightStateUniversity and has his M.F.A from the University of Cincinnati. He has taught drawing and printmaking at the University of Dayton, Wright State University, Dayton Art Institute, NorthernKentuckyUniversity and the University of Cincinnati. An accomplished printmaker, he is a member of the Dayton Printmakers Cooperative and lives in the city of Dayton. He has worked with DVAC since 2004 and is in charge of DVAC’s volunteer program, working with Artist Representatives to implement programming for members, overseeing programming related to specific exhibitions, acting as preparator for the gallery, and taking the lead role in DVAC’s ARTtoBUY program.
Hired in January 2008 on a contract basis and in a full time capacity since July, Janelle is responsible for day-to-day financial record-keeping, publication production, database maintenance, DVAC Web site updating, photographic documentation and working with student interns. She came to DVAC as a volunteer in the summer of 2007.
Janelle grew up in Dayton and completed bachelor’s of fine art degree in photography at the University of Dayton in 2006. She is a member of the Dayton Printmakers Cooperative.
